Search

The search is working now. for now it only works for the forums. It will be expanded to more areas as time goes on. If you want more details read on. I will get pretty in depth about the specifics about the search.

For starters, this search uses MySQL's newer full text method (this also means for now that searches must be at least 4 characters long and not have things like "what", "that" or really really common words) for searches. Basically this means that your searches are more accurate and much faster. You will notice that we don�¢ï¿½ï¿½t have the typical loading screen or anything like that in for our search. Although we may implement a time limiting search factor similar to other forums, for now we will see how the server handles all of you searching it.

As of right now there is no real difference between the way that the search results look when you search by post or by thread (only difference is you are linked to a specific post when searching by post, and you are linked to the thread when searching by thread. We are aware of this and it will be changing once we see how the server performs with the new search engine in place.

When you do a default search (the form at the top of every page) you will get threads within the last 6 months (to cut down on really old threads being re-opened) sorted by relevancy with the best results at the top and not so good ones towards the bottom. The search will search through the post and the title in all open forums.

Now for the advanced search. There are the general search options that are available on most forums (search by title/post, return as a thread or post, newer/older than a certain date, search by a partial or exact username, sort by a variety of options, search in a specific forum, and order descending or ascending). There are a few settings that can not go together and you will get an according error message to fix your settings accordingly.

Other than that enjoy the new searches. So far the seem to be quite accurate and fast. Hope the server will continue to think the same thing.
